Reduced reliance on diesel

Running a greener, cleaner network not only translates into lower CO2 emissions, but can also result in major cost savings

During 2009, we made significant changes to power sources for our base stations in Guatemala. Through the installation of over 100 deep cycle batteries, and the addition of over 500 new electricity line extensions, we reduced monthly diesel consumption by 100,000 gallons. As a result, not only did we reduce our emissions significantly, we also made a saving of almost US$5 million in one year.
